I am a textile artist, upcycler and educator based in Oakland, California.
My art practice explores themes of matriarchy, community and joy. I express these themes in the tactile forms of doll making, wearable art, and improvisational quilting. Color is often the starting point in my process from which each work takes on a life of its’ own.
The use of second hand and salvaged materials has become a central aspect of my craft practice. In addition to being an alternative to the environmentally destructive impact of the fashion industry, working within limitations of what materials are already available leads to innovations and spontaneity in my creative process.
I have shown my work at Omi Gallery, Galeria de la Raza, Home Gallery, The McCune Collection at Vallejo Public Library, among other retail spaces around the Bay Area. I have been a featured vendor at West Coast Craft and Outside Lands music festival, and have taught creative workshops at organizations including SCRAP SF, Google, and California Academy of Sciences. I am currently a sewing instructor at Berkeley Art Studio.
